Richard “Rick” Hoffman passed away on Aug. 17, 2022, at age 76 in his hometown of Twain Harte, California. His battle with cancer over the past year was only one example of how Rick walked through life with faith, courage, and a solid sense of humor. Despite the challenges, Rick always came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Rick was born in Chicago, Illinois, and eventually relocated to California after serving in the Army branch of the military in the Vietnam War. He has since been a devout husband and father/grandfather, trusted friend, leader in his community and a living testimony to his love for his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Rick worked for the San Francisco Hilton for 20 years before moving to the mountains, where he became a respected real estate broker for Century 21.
Being a lover of nature, fishing, hiking and birdwatching were some of Rick’s favorite past-times. Rick enjoyed watching a good football game and stayed loyal to the Chicago Bears after leaving Illinois. He has been known to throw a few horseshoes, and his trophies have been proudly displayed next to some of his prized antiques. Not even cancer could get between Rick and his passion for ice cream and his wife’s homemade cookies. He didn’t mind a good Manhattan and cigar from time to time. Rick’s quick wit and sense of humor gave everyone great joy and laughter and will always be remembered.
If you were Rick’s friend, you were a friend for life. His reputation as an honest and noble man will continue to go forth. His dream was to live peacefully in God’s country surrounded by the forest and his loved ones, and in the end, he did just that.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Andrea; four children, Alice, Joshua, Angela and Dennis; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be thoroughly missed by many, but we know that he is at peace and watching over all those that he loved.
A private service will be held in Rick’s honor. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Audubon Society in tribute to Rick’s love for wildlife: www.action.audubon.org.
