Lura Ashton Stephens resided in Twain Harte for the last eight years living with her daughter, Frankie.
She was born in Holly Hill, Kentucky, the second of five children to Francis and Mary Ashton. Lura retired from J.C. Penny after a 30-year career. She enjoyed visits to the library, playing scrabble, and always eating an apple a day to stay healthy.
Lura lived a long, good life. She was very close to her many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly. They find peace knowing she is in heaven with her parents, son Howard Stephens, granddaughters Sandra Hall and Gena Sharon, and siblings, Charlie Ashton, Maxine Pinkston, Herbert Ashton and Dessie Arns, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary “Frankie” Sharon, of Twain Harte; grandchildren Lisa Luke, of Texas, Debra Fiser, of Arkansas, Lura McGraw, of Montana, and Dan Sharon, of Arkansas; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Lura will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Terzich and Wilson Cremation-Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose Ave., in Sonora.
